Breaking News: Parliament Debates Motion to Allow Iraq War Resisters to Stay

On May 29th, following a motion put forward by NDP MP Olivia Chow, Parliament began debating a motion in support of Iraq war resisters.

The debate lasted for 3 hours with all three opposition parties speaking strongly in favour of the motion.

The Tories tried to derail the motion by procedural means but their attempt was defeated by a vote of 121-97.

WE STILL NEED YOU!!!

With the debate now completed, a vote on the motion will take place on Monday, June 2nd.

Strange Blog Visits, Pedestrian Sundays In Kensington Market, Aboriginal Days Of Action

Hello all. Mostly photos here. A question for you:
Are you visiting "Éabha The Kiwi" from Ottawa or Dorval and you work for Environment Canada? I'd love to know who you are, as you've been visiting for a while now. I like knowing who the people are who enjoy the photos and stories. Just drop me a comment under the post or one of the photos letting me know. Thanx!

One strange recent visitor seems to be the Royal Canadian Mounted Police!

Very strange. I called the RCMP in Ottawa to ask them to which occasion I was owed the honor of a visit. The officer on the other line laughed and said,
"oh it's nothing, you know we government types do nothing but surf the web all day. It was probably someone just killing time".
Great. Either way fairly dodgy. I mostly believe him too because there were no page/link views leaving the visit length at 0 seconds (the timer starts with the first click on the blog.

So no new huge news for right now. The first photos are from the Pedestrian Sunday at Kensington Market I wrote about in the last post. The later photos are mostly from one of these several Aboriginal Days Of Action. This one in particular was at Queens Park on May 26th, 2008.

Visit And Comment Often, (especially if you're from Environment Canada or the RCMP, lol)

It's Going To Be A Busy Week!

To confirm what I was "pretty sure" about last week/post: I am indeed moving to Ottawa in the second week of July. My partner Eleanor and I should have an address there by August 1st. I'm still looking into progressive skewls for Éabha. I was hired by an Ottawa school board and Eleanor has a job lined up as well. I'm also excited about moving to Ottawa because I know several people there like Pete, Stuart and Ashley; to say nothing of my cousins living there (they are several).

I'm super excited that Eleanor will be coming back from British Columbia on the 30th of May. I think we're both looking forward to extracting the "long distance" from our long distance relationship.

Two days later I'll be bringing back Éabha, who has been flourishing lately. I can't wait to see her and have a good feeling that June will be A LOT of fun! I've just enrolled Éabha in swimmin' lessons for June as well, so stay tuned for the photos of that and more.

Oh oh, another great piece of news, I'm no longer working at the slog! I fired my boss! I feel great now. I'm hoping to get a few more (supply) teaching days in here before the move, and the end of the school year.

My pal/comrade Tad Hargrave is visiting from Edmonton to give a workshop. I had the pleasure of picking him up from the airport yesterday and checking out a fringe play that was indeed, too fringe(3) for the fringe festival. I hope to meet up with Tad again before he heads back.

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market, which should be fun. Then I'm off to an open gender baby shower for pals Japji and Raidel, who are due in the middle of June (yay!).

That's it for now. Comment and visit often!

'Nuther Photo Post

Not to boast about this post, it's the most. I like several of these photos quite a bit and two captions in particular. Several of the photos need to be clicked on to see them in their proper resolution (in Flickr).

The "Hidden Face" photo needs to be clicked on to see the face and the proper resolution.

Updates? Um, I'll be working at the slog for another month and change. A move to Ottawa definitely looks like a sure bet now, most likely for August 1st. I'll be teaching there if that's what happens. More on that in posts yet to come.

Working at the slog has taken it's toll on me physically, both because it's demanding physically but also because I eat most of my meals there and their menu doesn't accommodate for my (vegan) diet at all. I've gotten out of it what I needed to (just about), but I'll be sure glad to go!

I learned to play three new songs on guitar this last week. Here are the videos to two of them:
