The story is crazy, but it happens everywhere all the time. In the same weekend, here is an account of the police attacking a peaceful bike-ride demonstration in Winnipeg, manitoba canada.

UK soldiers 'deserting over Iraq war'

Almost 1,000 UK soldiers have deserted the army since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to British media reports. The BBC said on Sunday that, in 2005, 377 personnel deserted and are at present still missing, while this year a further 189 have absconded.

Poverty is the Target at Festival Protest in Stratford, Ontario

The (Shakespeare) Festival in Stratford, Ontario (which believe it or not I must admit I once attended while on a long road trip which took me through parts of Canada) will be the scene of a demonstration called by the Perth County Coalition Against Poverty. The demonstration is a direct challenge to the opening night gala of the Stratford Festival. The event is a black tie, limo arrangement and will certainly see the Ontario Lieutenant Governor and high ranking Government officials in attendance.

I've started working in the public high schools as a substitute. I'm trying for a year contract for september, but usually one must be a substitute for a year or two first.
